The right to know? Should the state shorten the amount of time a criminal's record is publicly available from its current 15 years for a felony and 10 years for a misdemeanor? No. The CORI system is there for a reason ... as a protection from people with a violent or criminal past. Don't weaken it. Yes. The CORI system is unfair to reformed criminals who can't find work or housing. They deserve a chance at a second chance. Gov. Patrick's plan for 10 years and 5 years is a good one. Maybe they can lessen the amount of time misdemeanors are available. But felonies, especially violent crimes like robbery or felony assault, should remain available for the full 15 years. View Result
