Absolutely not! It's child abuse, and it only teaches kids that might makes right. Violence begets violence. Yes. Spare the rod and spoil the child. As long as it's just a tap on the bottom, I don't see what the big deal is. I think that if it saves the child from danger or getting hurt, it's worth the momentary pain inflicted. I'm the parent, and I get to make that call based on my individual child's behavior. Some kids just need a good spanking. There's a difference between spanking and hitting. I spanked my kids and they have grown up just fine. I was spanked, and I would never spank my children. Time out is every bit as effective as spanking, if not more. I think spanking is effective, but I don't do it for fear of having DSS involved in my life.
